Food Safety Advisor, Regulatory

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs is seeking a highly motivated individual with food safety expertise to provide leadership and scientific support in the development of policies for the ministry's Meat Inspection Program.

What can I expect to do in this role?

• provide ongoing technical support to Meat Inspection Program staff related to meat plant food safety and related ministry policies
• provide leadership and scientific input into the development, maintenance and enforcement of food safety regulations and industry guidance
• coordinate research, analysis and communications for meat food safety and animal welfare issues, acting as a regulatory resource specialist to inspection staff and industry organizations on meat production issues
• develop recommendations and present potential impacts and consequences of regulatory amendments and guidance to industry pertaining to the meat processing industry
• participate on multidisciplinary working groups and contribute expertise to assist in the development of regulations, standards, procedures and programs
• prepare and deliver presentations to ministry management, at public meetings or at industry association gatherings

How do I qualify?

Knowledge of food safety:

• You have knowledge of the principles and practices of food safety.
• You have knowledge of food safety legislation and related regulations.

Industry knowledge:

• You have knowledge of the meat processing industry.
• You have knowledge of food safety risk management programs and controls.
• You have knowledge of agriculture and food sciences to identify the implications of new or revised food safety standards.
• You have knowledge of labeling requirements for food products.

Communication skills:

• You have oral and written communications skills to explain, document and present complex information in practical terms.
• You have negotiation and collaboration skills to influence industry clients to develop and implement compliance programs.
• You have interpersonal skills to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with industry representatives and other government staff.

Computer skills:

• You are proficient with a variety of computer software applications (e.g. word processing, internet, spreadsheet, database).

Salary Range: $68,536 - $100,994 per year
