President - Ananth Kasic - Joined Board of Directors 2012
Ananth Kasic is a graduate of the Nagpur University, India in Microbiology program and has a post graduate program in Microbiology from SRTM University, India. He is also completed program in Quality Management from University of Manitoba.
He has 12+ years’ experience in the regulatory affairs and related food processing quality assurance field. He worked in various product categories like meat, dairy, condiments , retort canning and Deli meats. In his position as Manager, Quality Assurance, his team is responsible for the food safety, recall, regulatory and quality assurance activities of TMF Foods, Stoney Creek facility which is BRC certified. He has worked in various roles of HACCP Coordinator, SQF Practitioner and BRC Quality Champion in past career.
He has worked with various auditing bodies like NSF, Silliker, GFTC , Gluten free certification and Procert for organic. He also worked very closely with CFIA and USDA
Vice President & Chair of Partnership Committee - Angela Bernoski - Joined Board of Directors 2015
An experienced Food Safety and Quality Assurance professional with over 20 years’ experience in the food industry. Angela started her career at JM Schneider’s working in the chemistry lab and then moved to Campbell’s Soup where she became the Plant Microbiologist. The last 16 years she has spent her time at Piller’s Fine Foods in Waterloo Ontario. She joined as a QA/ Lab Technician, was promoted to a QA Manager, and most recently to her current position as Director of Food Safety and Quality Assurance where she oversees two GFSI / HACCP Certified manufacturing facilities and the distribution warehouse. Angela graduated from Seneca College’s Biotechnology Program and she completed further studies at the University of Guelph Food Science division. Angela is a proud graduate of Dale Carnegie’s Organizational Leadership program certified by The University of Central Missouri.
Angela eagerly brings her years of industry experience in food manufacturing, plant sanitation, microbiological analysis, auditing and her strong leadership abilities to the OFPA team of directors.
Treasurer & Chair of Finance Committee - Joe Myatt - Joined Board of Directors 2016
Joe graduated from the University of Guelph in 1987 with an honours degree in Applied Food Microbiology and Agricultural Science. He has worked in the food industry over the last 28 years at Peter Macgregor Meats, Ault Foods, Agropur-Natrel, Parmalat and Kraft Foods. Joe has held a variety of positions at the Plant and Corporate levels; i.e. Plant Quality Manager, Corporate Quality Assurance Manager/Director, Plant Manager and most recently Corporate Sanitation at Kraft Foods-Northeast (ON, QC, NY).
Joe is a Certified HACCP Auditor with the American Society of Quality, and completed the BRC Global Standard for Food Safety Issue 6 with Merit. Joe is a Registered Microbiologist with the Canadian College of Microbiologists (RMCCM). He has taught Food Packaging, Quality Assurance and Microbiology at Seneca College (Toronto) and has presented at the Ontario Food Protection Association and the Food Safety Symposium in Southwest Ontario. Joe also is adept at conducting Sanitation Kaizen Events for food processing facilities.
Joe brings 25 years of experience of using his microbiological and sanitation knowledge while working collaboratively with plant sanitarians to provide uncompromising food safety and superior quality .

Hanie Ahmadi now is a Researcher at Guelph Research and Development Centre of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. She holds a doctorate degree in Food Science with a specialization in food microbiology, chemistry and safety and master’s degree in Food Safety and Quality Assurance from University of Guelph. Her research focus has been on food safety of products by controlling food-borne disease using bacteriophages and high-pressure processing, encapsulation of bioactive compounds, and thermal processing effects on microorganisms’ inactivation kinetics. Beyond her successes as a researcher for more than seven years, she has had extensive experience working in industry including dairy, meat and cereal for as quality assurance, food engineer and R&D engineer.
Chair of Scholarship Committee - Kristen Green - Joined Board of Directors 2018
Kristen has been with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) since 2008, most recently as the Manager of the Monitoring and Analysis Unit in the Food Inspection Branch. Her team at OMAFRA uses risk-based evidence and data analytics to drive continuous improvement in inspection delivery and regulatory compliance to improve food safety. Prior to joining OMAFRA , Kristen worked as an industry consultant for Mallot Creek Group Inc. developing and implementing food safety and traceability programs across the agri-food sector. Kristen holds a Master of Science from the University of Guelph, a Bachelor of Science from the University of Western Ontario, and recently completed the Executive Education program at the Harvard Kennedy School in Strategic Management of Regulatory and Enforcement Agencies.
Chair of Website QA and Maintenance - Nadia Narine - Joined Board of Directors 2018
Nadia Narine has 20 years of experience in various Quality Assurance/Technical roles in the food industry delivering technical leadership and market development expertise. She has worked within a variety of food manufacturing facilities, as well as retail, which include industries such as bakery, confectionery and dairy. Nadia has expertise in Quality Assurance, Quality Control, food safety, and hygiene. She has strong audit and training skills. She is currently an approved auditor for GFSI standards such as BRC and SQF. In addition, she is a current auditor to unaccredited standards such as the Gluten Free certification program, GMASAFE, HACCP, and GMP. Nadia is a BRC Approved Training Provider for BRC: Food, Storage & Distribution, Packaging, Brokers and Agents. In addition to an approved SQF: Auditor and trainer, Nadia is an approved trainer with IHA. She is an auditor to (accredited and unaccredited) food facilities and a certified consultant for SQF and BRC. Nadia has worked with globally recognized organizations including Cadbury Chocolate, Maple Leaf Foods- Canada Bread and SAI Global, and SGS. Nadia is currently the Owner/President of Lumar Food Safety Services Ltd and has recently been awarded the Approved Training Partner and Consultant of the year for BRC - 2018.
She is currently a member of The American Institute of Quality and International Association of Food Protection -IAFP, the Vice Chair of the Sanitation and Hygiene PDG. She also serves on the Board of Directors for the Ontario Food Protection Association- OFPA.
Nadia’s educational background includes Industrial Microbiology honors diploma, Marketing bachelors, certificate in management, Six Sigma, and ongoing courses for professional development in food safety. She has attended University of Toronto, Centennial College, and York University.
Chair of OFPA, IAFP Award and Nomination Committees - Rupali Sanas - Joined Board of Directors 2018
Rupali Sanas is a Director of Quality Assurance and Food Safety at DOM International Limited. She holds a Master’s degree in Microbiology. She has extensive experience in quality assurance, food safety, regulations and, research and development in various food categories such as bakery, snacks, confections, produce, dairy, meat, grocery & seafood. She is involved in compliance of various government and industry programs such as QMP, QMPI, Organic, MSC, ASC & BRC. Rupali has worked with companies such as Danone, Cadbury & Loblaw.

Shirley is a recently retired Food Policy Liaison Officer for Ontario Region, Health Canada. As Food Policy Liaison Officer, Shirley worked closely with various stakeholders involved in food safety, including all 3 levels of government, industry and their associations, health professionals, academia, and consumer groups. She was also very active in food safety education and outreach to the general public. Previous to her 27 years at Health Canada, Shirley worked for 8 1/2 years at Nabisco - "Mr. Christie” and "Peek Frean" cookies in the lab and sanitation. Shirley graduated from the University of Toronto with an honours Bachelor of Science in the Microbiology Specialist Programme.
Chair of Sponsorship Committee - Peck Yap - Joined Board of Directors 2017
Peck Yap is a dynamic Food Safety and Quality Professional with 27 years of progressive experience in food safety and quality management, policy and procedure development, process validation, project management, process improvement, product development, plant sanitation legislation and regulations. She holds a Master’s degree in Food Science from the University of Guelph and earned a Six Sigma Green belt from McGill University. She has worked in the processed meat/food industry as Food Technologist, Project Coordinator, R&D Manager, and Quality Assurance Manager. Peck is now a Technical Consultant with Prime Quality Safe Food Solutions, providing professional technical services to the food sector, helping food companies in issues solving, food safety and quality program development, as well as achieving a GFSI certification.
